About Bombora

Bombora Surf School is a First Nations owned and operated Surfing Australia–accredited surf school, delivering high-quality surf coaching from beginner to advanced, including all-abilities and adaptive surfers.

Operating under a Gold Coast City permit at Tallebudgera SLSC and Palm Beach, with Tugun as our adaptive-friendly backup venue, Bombora offers industry-leading safety, First Nations cultural connection, and elite-level coaching.

Our head coach Zane Silvester is a professional sponsored surfer with Volcom & Kamikaze, APOLA lifeguard, Surfing Australia registered coach, and multi-year finalist at the Australian Indigenous Surfing Titles.

All sessions are led with deep ocean knowledge, high-performance technique training, and a passion for empowering the next generation of surfers of all abilities.

Meet Our Founders

Bombora Surf School is owned and operated by decorated indigenous surfers Brook and Zane Silvester.

  • Coach

    As one of the country’s most promising young indigenous surfers, Zane Silvester has emerged as a leader for the next generation of first nations watermen. With credentials across water safety and coaching, Zane has dedicated his formative years into obtaining certification across a range of water modalities.

    First certifying with the Academy of Surf Instructors in 2016, Zane is a professional competitive sponsored surfer (Volcom), APOLA certified lifeguard, and Surfing Australia certified coach.

  • Director

    Brook Silvester’s career highlights as a surfer and waterman span over four decades in professions that require absolute mastery in water and ocean conditions, including ocean cinematographer, decorated contest surfer, and water safety lifeguard.

    Brook has filmed surfing at an elite level, capturing the world tour and creating surf films. His credits span water cinematographer for TV series Bondi Rescue through to seminal surf movie Bra Boys.

    As a surfer, Brook has been awarded Australian Indigenous Surfing Titles 2024 Over 50 Grand Masters champion, Australian Indigenous Surfing Titles 2025 Over 50 Grand Masters finalist, Over 35 Masters finalist Surf Fest Indigenous Classic 2024, Second Place 2025 Finalist North Maroubra SR, Naidoc Comp 2025 Over 35 Masters Finalist.

    Brook is also Founder and President of First Nations Boardriders Club, is a Surfing Australia accredited coach, and a APOLA certified lifeguard.
